Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 08/14/2023

Number: 10

Living in the foothills of the Davis Mountains of far West Texas at 5100 feet elevation, we get 18 different hummingbird species through our region during fall migration. Rufous hummingbirds (male) showed up about 10 days ago at the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center & Botanical Gardens. We also had an Anna's in the garden yesterday, Black-chinned by the dozens, Broadtail, and Calliope, so far. This week is the biannual Hummingbird Festival in Fort Davis. A lot of people don't know about this desert oasis that is brimming over with hummingbirds. They are plentiful in this region until early October.
