Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 08/18/2023

Number: 1

Monarch Waystation #271 reports sighting a small hummingbird at 12:45 pm flying through a "nectaring circuit" in the front yard, both beds. Flowers visitied included Lady-in-Red salvia, red & yellow tropical milkweed, Ironweed + orange Zinnia [both hovered over & tested briefly], and orange Tithonia [Mexican Sunflowers]. This bird was small, did not have large white tail spots, had a dusky throat and iridescent green back. One of 2 regular visitors so far this summer. Seldom a chance to get a photo, due to very brief drinks at blooms and disappears quickly.
