Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/17/2023

Number: 1

I released a female Monarch early afternoon. She flew to a Zinnia Flower when I noticed a commotion a couple minutes after she landed. Checking out what was going on I saw a Praying Mantis pulling her wings and what looked like eating or dissecting her. The Praying Mantis was very green and stood between 3" to 4" tall. I tried to get my Monarch but the Praying Mantis took off with her and I could not find any trace in the flower bed. The Mantis jumped or flew into the vegetation. I have to admit I was really grossed out by what I saw. I know they are predators for my Hummingbirds but Monarchs? I was not aware of that.
