Number: 1

Individual m01, day fourteen since finding egg on July 28th, by 1230, 77F, head capsule was fallen below and it had molted to 5th instar, had not yet eaten its shed skin. By 1425, tentacles expanded, it (26mm long body) turned around and ate its shed skin. Rested and explored twigs for its first steps in its new container just before 1700, explored new jar/twigs until it found milkweed leaf at 1730, explored leaf inspecting entire front and back scanning its mouth from side to side (ensuring leaf has no eggs?) and then rested until its first bites at 1800, 25 hours after stopping eating yesterday and finding shelter to molt.

Image of fresh instar five in its 'crawling container'.

Room temperature ranged from 74F to 79F.
