Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/25/2023

Number: 3

A male monarch was active in yard starting at 8:30 am.
I saw him chase off a male around 10 am.
About 10:30 I saw him snag a female and they went to mate in the neighbor’s box elder tree. It seems a favorite mating and roosting place.

Another male was patrolling literally within two minutes. Funny they stop and perch in the same places on the different shrubs trees and milkweed.

Then all day long there were at least two males jostling for who owned the yard. Startin around 4:30 I saw three skirmishes in 5 minutes. Counted 19 encounters in thje next four hours.
One male would fly into the yard and nectar on the butterfly bush for a bit until the patrolling male would see him and chase him off. Maybe a migrator?
The yard patrol male/s doesn’t seem to need to nectar very often.

Anyway I have my tags ready if it ever seems like a migrator is coming through and is undisturbed.
