Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 08/16/2023

Number: 2

Monarch Waystation #271 reports watching a small hummingbird out the kitchen window as it visited the front bed blooms about 8:40 am. It necated at the tall orange Tithonia [very briefly landed to rest on it], then zipped to several Lady-in-Red Salvias in succession. Finally it nectared at an orange Zinnia, and took off, taking about 30 seconds for the whole sighting. Saw tiny white tail spots, and dusky gray under its chin and on chest. It's the smaller of the 2 I've been regularly seeing lately. At 11:25 am a larger hummingbird with a dusky breast was seen nectaring at the Tithonia out the front window, then it was gone, too quick for me to catch any more good field marks.
