Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 08/18/2023

Number: 580

The monarch roosting this year arrived right on schedule started 8/18/2023 and increased to thousands by 8/22/23. Their preference for roosting was in our basswood trees and maple trees. We are a 10 acre farm with several pollinator gardens that we’ve been building since 2014. We have mature trees and there is space for them to move around on the periphery, or within a canopy of trees. Are use the grid system and take photos at various places around our farm where I see the roost and then estimate the total numbers become about 3 to 4000 monarchs at the peak. Most departed on 8/28/23 and we have a few left , probably hatching from the milkweed, as of today, 8/30/23
