Hummingbirds are laying low, flying between perennials/annuals, nectaring on flowers most of the time. A group of Blue Jays, mid size hawks, Cardinals are circling the garden. Songbirds like Chickadee, American Goldfinch, Sparrows and Finches are busy eating seeds while attracting predators. Male Ruby throated hummingbirds are missing since last week. Females are missing today. No idea if they are roosting in conifers and nectaring on nearby plants due to lack of feathers. Columbus, the Rufous bird that overwintered in our greenhouse mostly nectared on flowers and caught insects at 2ft height while flight feathers were being replaced. Number is based on sugar water consumption.
