Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 08/30/2023

Number: 3

Our 3 adult resident male Rubies (Sparky, Sprite, and Maverick) are still with us, fueling up for their big journey ahead. I've been observing all 3 throughout the day, more at the feeders these days than the flowers. They are all very familiar and comfortable with me and often notify me of their exact location by squeaking at me. They will perch near me and converse with me in their own little language. They are my "boys" and are very dear to me. From early April through the end of June, while the adult females are busy nesting, the boys keep company with me in the gardens while we all await the appearance of the first fledglings. And when the Mamas come down from their nests to feed from the feeders and flowers, I'm not sure who is more excited to see them, me or the boys. Each and every day is such a delight with them. Last year, Maverick was the first to depart, on September 8th, followed by Sparky on the 9th, and then by Sprite on the 14th.
