We still have 20+ Rubies with us, however, the migration departure has seemingly begun. Within the last week, I've noticed the absence of a few of our hardiest and more dominant juvenile males, particularly those that fledged from first nests. Their gorgets were starting to display noticeable red feathers. They are already missed!
What a bittersweet time of year this is for so many of us, as we transition from summer to fall, and say "see you next year" to our Rubies and other friends, such as our personable and delightful Catbirds! We begin to pray for their safe journeys.
