Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/04/2023

Number: 1

September 4, 2023 8:00-9:00 am I observed a monarch butterfly out of its chrysalis. There were slight movements, I hoped to see it fly, but the damp liquid on the siding indicated it was just beginning its birth. I read that it takes time for the butterfly to get liquid through its body. I watched over an hour and checked recently and it is still there!
Very exciting! We have over a hundred milkweed plants in four areas. We have seen monarch butterflies every summer for years! The boneset plants are being used for late summer feedings for wasp, bees, flies, and four butterfly species.
