Sightings report image

Number: 1

She spent a good 50 minutes going from flowerhead to flowerhead on these thistles in what used to be our vegetable garden. We didn’t cultivate the garden this year and just let mother nature take over. Very vibrant colour. She took a couple breaks in between feeding to rest on nearby fruit tree branches. After her last rest, we observed her flying north out over the soybean field where she rose higher and higher above the farmers field until she was out of sight. She evaded a couple dragonflies on her flight up. I speculate that she might be soaring on some thermals potentially in migration. Extremely humid and hot 26°C at 10:00 with a heat warning in effect locally. Winds west southwest at 14 km/h at time of observation. Time of observation was 09:35 until 10:45.
