I saw six or seven mature monarchs scanning the lower branches of the maple trees south of my house. They would land and lift off again looking for each other. The trees are next to a meadow with red clover and wild carrot . Roosting type behavior started around 7:30 p.m. , temperature was 27° c, no breeze and clear sky.
In other years I have had roosts of up to 300, mostly preferring the north side of a row of maple trees north of my house.
