Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/04/2023

Number: 20

We still have 20+ Rubies. It's very difficult to even begin to give an exact number. We have a lot of micro territories on our property and each is still full of hummers. Interestingly, migration has begun here as well and some of our juveniles that fledged from first nests have headed out on their first journeys south. Our adult males continue to play this game of musical chairs as they shift around from their usual locations. I'm working hard at keeping up with them. They are either focused on finishing out their molting or they want a break from all the juveniles or both. The same holds true for the adult females. They have seemingly lost patience with the kiddos.

Temps are back up into the 90s, but thank goodness, it appears the heat will be short lived this time, as we'll be back down in the 80s by the weekend. The juveniles are enjoying the flowers and feeders, while it appears for the most part, that all of our adults, both male and female, are staying close to a feeder and focusing on simply fueling up at this point.

God speed to all the hummingbirds and other birds that have begun their journeys. They are in my prayers.
