Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 09/09/2023

Number: 1

Monarch Waystation #271 reports sighting a small hummingbird iwth tiny tail spots meticulously nectaring on each orange Tithonia bloom across the patio in front of the kitchen window at 11:25 am. It tasted the partly unfurled blooms as well as those that had lost all their petals and were going to seed. At one point the bird hovered nearer to the window to check out the movement I made inside to grab for a camera. It calmly went back to feeding and then took off before I had a chance to capture it on camera. The sky was clouding up and perhaps the bird sensed the upcoming forcasted short showers. Temp was in the low 80s.
