Sightings report image

Date: 09/11/2023

Number: 8

Adult males and most females have migrated. Some older juveniles are in charge of the newly fledged birds. Juveniles are flying in tandem with seniors while catching insects. They are mostly nectaring from flowers - either to get all the nutrients for migration/growth or to avoid predators. Sugar water consumption is down to 2oz per day !! Floral section is crowded with squirrels and chipmunks trying to bury their winter food. Groundhogs have decimated asters, phlox and zinnias exposing salvias to predators. Hawks, Blue Jays and other birds are circling. Autumn woes....
