All 3 of our resident adult males are now on their way south. Sparky and Maverick both left on Saturday, the 9th, and Spritey left yesterday morning, on the 11th. Before Sprite took off, he came to within a few feet from me as he had been doing recently each time I would venture into his area. He perched for several minutes and we just hung out together. I knew his departure time was near and I wished him a safe and pleasant journey and told him I would be waiting for him next April. I love all my sweet Rubies and I've grown attached to many individuals over the last few years. My boys are very special to me, as I spend more time with them than I do any of the others. While the mamas are busy nesting, my 3 musketeers bless me with their presence out in the gardens every day from early April to early/mid September. They make me laugh on a daily basis. I know exactly where to look for them until late in the season then they decide to mix things up and I have to go and find them. They squeak for me to let me know where they are. It's like they are saying, "Here I am! I just need a break from all these youngsters." Our 4 year old daughter also loves all of our hummingbirds, but Sparky has always been her very favorite. God speed, my little ones. You all are in our prayers. We will miss you dearly and will be waiting for your return in April.
