Sightings report image

Date: 08/14/2023

Number: 1

By early morning, the larva (m01) had eaten half of the large milkweed leaf it started on late last night, so its container was cleaned and provided a fresh leaf (its 9th leaf). Before completing transfer it crawled up off its leaf and clung tightly to top of the container, so as gently as possible with sanitized tweezers it was pulled off the container top and placed in its jar on a twig. The lid had to be put it place quickly as the larva immediately crawled upward. The rest of the day it explored, crawling up and down the twig and mostly near the top of the jar before settling in on the underside of the lid and began setting its silk pad. It did not eat any of the ninth milkweed leaf.

Images are of the larva as described above, beginning from the top left down to the bottom right frame.

Room temperature ranged from 73F to 77F.
