9/13/23- Approximately 75 monarchs seen 6:15-7:45pm before 7:45 sunset at Tip at Point Pelee National Park. Upon arrival at Tip gate near Visitor Center observed 3 monarchs flying around tree top. One settle on a Hackberry tree. Cintinued down & at Sparrow Field observed 6 flying around. Upon arrival at shuttle stop a cluster of 3 was already established with monarchs at a 2nd location already showing interest in establishing another. No monarchs seen below tower nectaring on the plentiful flowers. Observed a couple of monarchs flitting on east side down at Tip however no clusters or single individuals roosting.
7:25 back up at the shuttle stop the cluster of 3 increased to 6. The 2nd location still at shuttle stop monarchs continued to show interest & suddenly in front of visitors decided it was a good spot & 6 quickly settled high up in hackberry tree which over the next 10 minutes increased to 12. Individuals settled here & there on bare vines. By 7:40 all activity stopped. Partly sunny & 21°c with West wind @16/34 kmh. Daytime high 22°c. Overnight low 12°.
