Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/14/2023

Number: 1

One adult Monarch feeding on Verbena flowers. It was here for a couple of hours, 12 to 2 o'clock. Then l had to leave. There are only a few monarchs in Oxford now. There used to thousands here a few years ago. The loggers in Mexico cut down their Oyamel forests. Then they planted many, many avocado tree farms. It's a travesty. The Mexican government must be held accountable. We can plant as much milkweed as we can here in the U.S. but the monarchs MUST have their wintering forests or they will become extinct! It's in their genetic background to go to Mexico, we can't change that but we should be able to change human behavior. It's all about the mighty peso to the Mexicans. To them, it's just a bug...
