Sightings report image

Date: 09/14/2023

Number: 15

Approximately 15 monarchs seen 6:05-7:45pm before 7:41 sunset at Tip at Point Pelee National Park. 6:15 walking down west path observed one monarch on left (east) side of path nectaring from Goldenrod. He had a good long sip then quickly flew west over the path, continued west to the shoreline & continued west out over the lake at 25' up then lower & with the bright sunshine disappeared from view.
In favourable weather Monarchs will usually continue migrating south til an hour before sunset at which time they may test the conditions but return to trees & depart next favourable day.
No monarchs were seen further down Tip.
6:45-7:45 back up at shuttle stop visitors & myself watched about 14 monarchs arrive mostly from the NW flying/circling at tree tops & continue flitting about til about 7:40. No clusters located.
Sunny & 18°c with light SE wind @ 5 kmh. Daytime high 20°c. Overnight low 11°c.
