Once I noticed a monarch on my swamp milkweed (August 13, 2023), I place garden stakes around them and cover them with mosquito netting. The caterpillars are protected under the netting, and will then crawl up the netting when ready, and make their chrysalis. The first monarch hatched out August 31st, with a total of 27 hatching out over the week. Once they hatch out, I lift the netting and off they go.
