Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/14/2023

Number: 4

Morning Observation of two today, time was from 8:30am until 8:50am. During that time frame the temperature was 49 degrees, with a daily high temperature expected to be 72 degrees. There was zero wind at the time with clear and sunny skies. I observed four female ruby-throated hummingbirds at 3 seperat feeders simultaneously. Three were very plump while one was quite small and not nearly plump. The smaller hummer did not perch but hit upon the feeder multiple times in secession. The other three drank for a very long time. Only the smallest hummer flew off in a southward direction as the other three kept flying back and forth to my feeders from my dense evergreen hedges and pine trees. Throughout the day I caught glimpses of Hummers getting nectar from several varieties of Rose-of-Sharon bushes, garden phlox, hanging baskets of petunias and some zinnias.
