Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/14/2023

Number: 5

This was my evening observation of two today. Observation time frame was from 7:30pm until 8:50pm. Coming off a clear sunny day with a high temperature of 72 degrees and zero wind most of the day. Temperature at observation time was 61 degrees. Five female ruby throated hummers were seen simultaneously at my four patio feeders. At several times two hummers could be spotted sharing a feeder. However there was a lot of chasing going on as well as noticing hummers making several trips to the feeders from perches in the dense evergreen hedge and pine trees. None were seen flying southward before dusk settled in so apparently overnight guests if not a regular resident, which I think I only have one left. All the hummers observed were quite plump. Hummers were also observed nectaring from several varieties of Rose-of-Sharon bushes, garden phlox, hanging baskets of petunias and some zinnias.
