Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/15/2023

Number: 20

I was in our yard watching some monarch caterpillars when I saw a couple of monarch butterflies flying quickly to the south. A few years ago, we had so many roost with us one night. So I followed those two to our back field. The sun was setting, but the sun was still strong on the eastern brush/honeysuckle/walnut grove edge of the field. I stood quietly and watched a few monarchs flying about. I walked down about 1/2 acre and saw a few more. 20 is probably a good estimate.
