Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/16/2023

Number: 7

7 very active ruby-throated hummers, including at least 1 juvenile male, continue to grace our flowers and feeders. The juvenile male really rules over his little territory. They really love black-and-blue salvias and cigar flowers. Less frequently they nectar at orange or purple agastaches. It's really funny to watch them shoot out, snag an insect, and pop back to a perch. Activity at nectar feeders really picked up this evening. Temps. were in the low 70's with mostly cloudy sky. Quitting time was at 7:36 p.m. central time. So the 7:47 quitting time a few days ago must have been an exception.
