Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers
Sightings report image

Date: 09/17/2023

Number: 14

Photo is one of 14 juveniles nectaring starting at 7 a.m. until 6 p.m today. This group is skinny in appearance.
All I can say this has been the most challenging year to host and count rubythroat hummingbirds.

They go to all our Hamelia Patens varieties that took a bad cut from heat this year. Finally opened up buds for this incoming round. I sweated for two months trying not to loose Hamelias by watering sometimes three times a day bent over wilted branches.

It has been exhausting because we get up early for over four months seeing rubythroats this summer as there were nesters apparently.

Today was the icing on the cake with the most juveniles to be with us.

I'm sure it's not over yet. But could use a much needed break. Banner year for all ages of male, female rubythroat hummingbirds coming to our garden and feeders. And yes I got dehydrated and had to go to emergency room a week ago. But made it thru 2023 drought in Houston.
