Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/22/2023

Number: 6

We saw an adult monarch on 9/11/2023, suspect it was a female that laid eggs on one of our milkweed plants. We saw caterpillars around 9/13. The plant the caterpillars were on was too small/had too few leaves, so we transplanted the caterpillars to other milkweed plants that we have. The caterpillars range from about 1" in length to the about-to-be-pupating one shown in the image, taken today at 11:27 AM. They all seem healthy and have good appetites. After a couple of years without monarchs, we have high hopes for all the caterpillars to become adults.
