Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/17/2023

Number: 1

Saw a Ruby whiz by a window, so I went to the other window that looks out at a feeder. They sure put their brakes on fast!

I identified gender by his tail. He drank deeply for quite a long time. I assume he had been migrating most of the day.

He was a tall boy. I didn't see a gorget, but the sunlight in this location at 5:30 p.m. isn't very good for seeing the red. I felt that he was an adult, because he was taller than any of the adults I had earlier in the season, but it seems very late in the season for an adult.

Likely, he's the last one for the year. Last year, hummingbird season ended a day earlier.

Wish they liked winter!
