Monarch PEAK Migration

[Data Verification Note: contacted observer for more information about this observation; additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 10/06/2023]:

I was laying on our sidewalk looking up at the sky, so I counted them as they floated over.

The time was 6:15pm to 7:00pm, central time.

The monarchs were floating on the upper wind going west (this seemed so strange). Our house is a two story, so they were floating that height and up. I was able to see them all by naked eye. Some were really high up and I could see their detail by looking thru binoculars.

There was a light wind and it was a beautiful evening.

I had the same thing happen October 4th. We had storms moving in and I thought they might ride the storm front. I used the same procedure for siting them. I laid on the sidewalk and counted 206 as they floated over. Once again, they were going west. The time was 5:30pm to 6:45pm, central time.
