All summer we had only 4-5 Monarch butterflies in the garden on a daily basis vs 30-40 in the previous years. This year, garden was full of predators as a result of years of boom- Wasps, Flycatcher birds, tree frogs, Praying Mantids, Dragon flies, Tachinid flies and other parasitoids. Now that it is fall, most of these left the garden and migrating Monarchs are appearing by a dozen or so daily. Found 25+ caterpillars ready to form chrysalis. Brought them indoors after seeing them struggling in rain from the storm Ophelia. Will post photos of pupae in a day or two.
