Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/27/2023

Number: 7

7 ruby-throated hummers made my day. Today was clearly a travel day. I only saw 2 of the 4 hummers that were here last evening. I saw these 2 leave by early afternoon. Minutes after the 2nd one left a new juvenile appeared at a nectar feeder but did not stick around. About 45 minutes later a juvenile male stopped to rest for a bit, but he didn't stay either. Around 5:00 p.m. 3 more ruby throats appeared at our nectar feeders to fill up. 1 must have traveled some distance as it nectared at a feeder for several minutes straight. Most feeding was at nectar feeders and some at black-and-blue salvias a little later in the evening. I was very happy that these hummers turned our yard into a wayside rest stop today. The day was mostly cloudy with a high of about 70°. Quitting time was about 7:06 p.m.
