Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers
Sightings report image

Date: 09/28/2023

Number: 6

Ruby throated hummingbird nectaring from Salvia chiapensis. Tropicals like Cosmos, Zinnia have wilted due to 42*F nights and excessive rain. Groundhogs/Raccoons most of the marigolds and some dahlias. Most dahlias in raised beds are in full bloom; attracting insects and hummingbirds. Salvia chiapensis, Salvia Autumn Enchanter and many varieties of Salvia leucantha are now in bloom. Rueillia elegans/simplex, Duranta erecta, Calliandra emarginata (powder puff), Aloysia virgata (sweet almond bush), Odontonema (Firecracker Bush) and Abutilon (Flowering maple) are in bloom in the greenhouse. Hummingbirds are spending their mornings and evening in the greenhouse. So we have removed feeders in GH to encourgae them to migrate on time.
