Corn and soybeans are ready for harvest here in NW Iowa. Many different bird species have already gathered and headed south. Goldfinches left long ago - robins - bluejays and doves have mostly moved on along with Eastern Kingbirds and barn swallows. Lately a good sized flock of northern flickers have been here. The Canada geese are gathering into bigger flocks as well as the starlings and blackbirds. The gulls were moving over yesterday. The monarchs have moved on and most of the bees have stopped appearing. The bumblebees are still hitting the remaining flowers. The migration is an awesome thing! (-:
