Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/24/2023

Number: 3

Throughout the day {11:45am, 2:25pm and 5:35pm) prior to my usual evening observation times I occasionally seen female ruby throated hummers at the feeders drinking long and eventually flying off in a southward direction. During my normal observations time frame from 7:00pm until 8:00pm, I observed three very plump female ruby throated hummers. Temperature was 70 degrees, partly cloudy skies with no wind speed. All three hummers drank for an extended period of time. All three flew off into either heavy leafed trees or dense evergreens nearby the feeders. At least two made return trips to the feeders prior to 7:45pm. My thinking they were hunkering down overnight and load up in the morning before continuing on their way. Overnight temperatures are expected to be around 56 degrees.
