Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/02/2023

Number: 3

This is the larger of 3 juvenile ruby-throated hummers seen today. It's a possibility of a fourth in the evening but not sure on that. I think they're all juvenile males. There wasn't a lot of nectaring at flowers today. But they did feed at black-and-blue salvias, purple agastache, orange agastache, and cigar flowers. Lots of insect hunting and nectaring at feeders. Had to put out feeders with the 5-point flower bee guards. Honey bees were trying to swarm the feeders. Bees haven't been this bad all summer. It was a sunny day with high in the 90's. One hummer stretched quitting time to after 7:00 p.m. at 7:03 central daylight. You never know what is going to happen!
