Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/04/2023

Number: 1

a single monarch at 0827 hours fluttered past NE to SW at single story rooftop height. the butterfly then circled back above the street and landed at the top of a lilac shrub as tall as the house. the lilac had been severely pruned back in May - perhaps that is why the shrub is blooming now ; most unusual for common lilac in Maine (or anywhere?). the monarch nectared intensely as it move from one flower cluster to another. eventually it fluttered behind the house and disappeared in a southwesterly direction.
