Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/01/2023

Number: 7

The monarch caterpillars are feeding on Tropical milkweed as late as October 3rd, with a female nearby (not pictured) whose wings are faded, and who continues nectaring from the still-flowering plants. South La. has been designated under Severe Drought for months and since fewer plants are blooming, the monarchs are slower to lay eggs here. This has been the latest date we’ve ever had monarchs at this growth stage.
