I drive a trolley on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. While stopped on the road in Antler Hill Village, a single monarch crossed the road in front of my trolley. I looked around but did not see any others in the area.
Throughout the day, I continue to look for Monarchs but did not see any. There are several areas on sides of roads that are filled with Asters and Goldenrod. I expected to see monarchs in those areas but none were to be found. I heard there were Monarchs in the Walled Garden on the estate so I went there late in the afternoon. Within the walled garden, directly behind the conservatory, there were about 20 Monarchs on and around a single clump of asters and a butterfly bush.
