Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/05/2023

Number: 6

Down to about 6 or so juveniles/ adult females. Ours have been trickling out for about a month now. We had 2 dozen + at our peak this summer. These little ones remaining have 10 feeders and lots of flowers to themselves and seem to be leisurely enjoying fattening up. When I'm out in the yard, they continue to come up to me to say hello and will perch near me. I hope they know how much I enjoy their company. Last year, our last juvenile left on October 15th, but we continued to have travelers for several weeks later and our first male Rufous showed up on October 22nd and stayed with us until March 25th. Like others, I can't stress how important it is to keep your feeders up, clean and ready for others coming through. The golden rule says at least 2 weeks after your last sighting. The late ones are the ones who need our help the most. Just imagine it were your birds searching for a clean, fresh feeder. And I echo all the other advice regarding hummingbird feeders from Beverly in Houston. She was spot on. I have learned so much from her the last few years. She has a wealth of knowledge on hummingbirds.
