Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/06/2023

Number: 1

Looks like we're down to our last ruby-throated hummer. This juvenile male has been here nectaring up for 4 or 5 days. He was about 50-50 between nectaring at flowers and feeders. Flower nectaring was almost exclusively at black-and-blue salvias. But there was some insect nabbing as the sun came out prior to sunset. The day was chilly with a high in the low 50's with rain all morning. Had ice on our deck very early morning. Going to be sorry to see the little guy move on. I was surprised he stayed all day. But this sighting ties our 2nd latest date all-time for seeing hummingbirds in our yard. Quitting time was 6:56 p.m. central daylight time. I fully expect tomorrow to be our last sighting of RTHBs.
