Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/07/2023

Number: 2

We're down to 2 or so. I saw 2 sweet Rubies yesterday evening right at dusk. We've been gone most of the day today, so I had very little observation time. I did see one this morning and I also saw one when we got home this evening. Tomorrow, I'll have more time to observe. We were down to about 6 or so at the beginning of the week and each day since then, they have been trickling out. We had 2 dozen + at our peak in mid July. Our 3 resident adult males left September 9th-11th. It takes a good month for all the others to head out, a little at a time. The one I observed today both morning and evening, a female (most likely a juvenile) was feeding strictly from flowers and not the feeders. We're down to 6 feeders now, from 11. We still have plenty of hummingbird/pollinator flowers. We're getting our first cold spell of the season beginning tonight. Temps for the next 5 nights will dip down into the low 40s. Last year, our last juvenile Ruby, also a female, left on October 15th. God speed, sweet little ones. ❤️
