Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/08/2023

Number: 2

Couldn't believe it when I spotted a second ruby-throated hummingbird today. 1 has been hanging around the backyard and the new arrival today staked out the front yard. I didn't know the second one was around until about 6:30 p.m. I saw it nectaring from a pink salvia while the other RTHB perched in a nearby tree. We've never had a hummer arrive this late in the season. What a treat! The hummer that was here all day nectared at feeders, black-and-blue salvias and cigar flowers. The new arrival nectared at the same kind of flowers. I believe this second one stopped here because of the presence of blooming flowers. This season is turning out special in terms of how late a hummer has stayed and how late there has been a new arrival. The day was mostly sunny with a high in the 50s. Quitting time was 6:47 p.m. central daylight time.
