Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/09/2023

Number: 1

I was surprised to see a Monarch butterfly near my yard this afternoon. I was hoping it would seek nectar from my flowers so that I could possibly net it and use one of my remaining "Monarch Watch" tags to tag it. It flew into a neighbor's tree though, to roost for the night, I assume. I was surprised that it could even fly, since it was only 54 degrees out, and I have heard that they aren't able to fly in temps below 60. I will look for it in the morning. It is to get into the low 30's tonight.
