Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/10/2023

Number: 2

The sighting of 2 ruby-throated hummers today ties our all-time latest sighting date of 10/10 for hummingbirds in our yard set in 2013. It also sets our latest sighting date of more than 1 RTHB present. In the picture a juvenile male is nectaring at a black-and-blue salvia blossom kind of top 1/3rd right quadrant. It looked like our hummers had left around 10:00 this morning. But then around 4:00 p.m. they were back nectaring at black-and-blue salvias and having intense aerial battles. I couldn't watch the hummers after 5:00 p.m. so I don't know the quitting time. I didn't see any feeding at nectar feeders. The day was sunny with a high in the mid-50s and overnight low of 38°. This season is coming to a close with a bang for us! This is beyond expectations! Keep your feeders up and flowers going. Ruby-throats are still coming thru from the north!
