In Ontario, we experienced sunshine and temperatures way above normal for early October, breaking temperature records in some areas of the province. On October 5th, I visited an agricultural field near Lake Ontario south of the community of Grafton, and in 2 hours, I had captured 124 mnonarchs to tag. Most were very fit, with plump abdomens after feeding on red clover in the field. A few late captures were of smaller monarchs and those with wing damage or imperfections. All were tagged and released.
