Large numbers on Latris. Monarchs are thick everywhere the liatris grows. Number is a calculation estimate from calculation of acres of liatris and average spacing between individuals. 20 acres (out of our 115 acres)is solid (and conservative) using google earth to measures areas covered. This leaves out many smaller areas or thinner flower coverage. Also area stops at our fences even if flowers continue. 3000 is for about 25 foot spacing. Spacing is harder. There are far more present that you can see at one time because monarchs almost alway perch below the top or the flowers so are hidden most of the time. Revealed maybe when one pumps wings or moves to another flower.
