Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/11/2023

Number: 1

Saw this bird at 9am nectaring from the feeder near the deck/greenhouse. Later saw one in the front yard. It is important to know that this year, like last year, we have hummingbirds beyond their average last seen date i.e. Oct 9th. So either our garden got better or warmer weather is making them linger longer or both. Either way, we are happy the flowers are being used. Also in the garden are gazillion bees/wasps, Monarchs, Fritillary, American Lady, Sulphur and Cabbage butterflies. Aster tataricus Jindai (Tatarian aster) and absolute last perennial Leucoseptrum japonicum (japanese shrub mint) have started blooming. Salvia involucrata and Salvia purpurea are ready to shine but they succumb to freeze before they get into full bloom mode. Japanese maples have started their color show.
