Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/16/2023

Number: 1

Still at least one Ruby here; thinking there may be more than one. A friendly one perched within a few feet from me for quite some time this afternoon. As stated before, 99% sure that the hummingbirds I'm seeing now are travelers. It's much more difficult for me to keep up with the travelers than my "resident" hummers. I'm fairly certain the last of my resident hummers left 2 weeks ago. I'm still maintaining 6 feeders and we have quite a few flowers remaining, including lots of Salvia (many different varieties, Cuphea vermillionaire, Gartenmeister fuchsia, Buddleia (butterfly bush), porter weed, Shrimp plant, and lantana. We've had many nights down in the low 40s. I'm hoping we avoid a frost as long as possible. These late Rubies always worry me. Every night, we pray that God prods them to get on their way. Please keep your feeders cleaned and refilled at least through October. These late stragglers really do depend on them. God speed, sweet, little jewels. ❤️
