Crossing Espiritu Santo Bay, began seeing Monarchs flying to the southwest. Counted more than 50 before I stopped counting. We drove the entire 36 mile island's gulf beach (Gulf of Mexico on the central Texas coast) and continued to see monarchs streaming down the beach and inland toward the southwest. When we returned on the road in the center (4 pm) of the island, we saw flocks of monarchs feeding on baccharus bushes and likely roosting for the night.
